Hello! I’m Helen Wan. I’m an author and lawyer. My debut novel, THE PARTNER TRACK, was published by Macmillan in September 2013. The paperback edition will be released in September 2014.
THE PARTNER TRACK is the story of a young Asian American woman competing for partnership at a prestigious, high-stakes law firm. It’s about how diversity, difference, and ‘outsider’ status impact the lives of talented young people of color ascending the corporate ladder. It’s also about ambition itself, and how to stay true to ourselves while pursuing career success.
Since the book’s release, I’ve had the amazing opportunity to speak at many corporations, law firms, law schools, universities, bar associations, leadership conferences, and other places around the country about the themes of my novel: how we — especially women and people of color — experience the dynamics of corporate America, and what we can all do to achieve a more inclusive and engaging workplace.
I find group dynamics and social hierarchies endlessly fascinating. I’m very interested in women’s complicated relationship with ambition, and how gender, race, socioeconomic class, and cultural upbringing affect our personal and professional decision making. I love a good workplace story, and I root for underdogs.
I’m now at work on a second book. When I’m not writing, I love reading, exploring new neighborhoods, and making our toddler son giggle. Thank you for visiting my website. I’m happy to meet you! – Helen
