I’m Helen Wan, author of THE PARTNER TRACK (Macmillan/St. Martin’s Press). I’m a novelist, speaker, and diversity and inclusion consultant. I’m also a media lawyer. I write mostly about team dynamics and how race, gender, sex, class, culture, family, and privilege impact personal and professional decisions. My work has appeared in The Washington Post, HuffPost, The Daily Beast, and on

My novel THE PARTNER TRACK is the story of a young woman of color navigating the alien culture at a powerful law firm. It’s about chasing success and living authentically at work while staying true to ourselves and our values.

I’m fascinated by our complicated relationship with ambition. I love a good workplace story. I root for underdogs.

I speak at companies, schools, law firms, and leadership events about how diverse colleagues can often experience the career ladder, and how to build an inclusive environment where talented people of all backgrounds and experiences will want to go, stay, and thrive. I’m thrilled that THE PARTNER TRACK is being used to spark thoughtful, constructive conversation in university classrooms and many kinds of workplaces.

When not lawyering or writing, I love to read anything I can get my hands on (especially mysteries), explore new places, try to “cook,” binge-watch Hitchcock, and make our kid laugh. I’m honored to serve on the Amherst College Executive Committee and the Affinity Engagement Task Force, and the non-profit boards of Pen Parentis, The New York Women’s Bar Association Foundation, and the Asian American Arts Alliance.

Thanks for visiting my author site. Very happy to meet you. Here’s to everyone’s happiness and success, however they are defined by you!
