I’m Helen Wan, author of THE PARTNER TRACK (Macmillan/St. Martin’s Press). I’m an author, speaker, and diversity and inclusion consultant. I’m also a media and intellectual property lawyer. I write about group dynamics and how race, gender, sex, class, culture, family, and privilege impact “success” and personal and professional decisions and outcomes. My work has appeared in The Washington Post, HuffPost, The Daily Beast, on, and elsewhere.

My novel, THE PARTNER TRACK, is an American Dream story. It’s about a woman of color learning to navigate the alien culture at a powerful global law firm. It’s about chasing ambition while attempting to live authentically at work and remaining true to ourselves and our values. I’m thrilled that my book is now in production as an original Netflix series.

I’ve always been fascinated by our complicated relationship with “success” and ambition. I love a good workplace story, and tales about leveling the playing field. I root for underdogs, fairness, and kindness.

I speak at colleges, law schools, law firms, companies, and leadership events about how diverse colleagues often experience the career ladder, and how to create an inclusive environment where talented people of all backgrounds and experiences can go, stay, and thrive. I’m truly grateful that THE PARTNER TRACK is being used to spark thoughtful, constructive conversation in university classrooms and many kinds of workplaces.

When not lawyering or writing, I love to read anything I can get my hands on (especially mysteries), explore new places, try to “cook,” binge-watch Hitchcock, teach fiction writing, and make our kid laugh. I’m honored to serve on the Amherst College Executive Committee and Affinity Engagement Task Force, and the non-profit boards of the New York Women’s Bar Association Foundation, the Asian American Arts Alliance, and Pen Parentis.

Thanks for visiting my website. Very glad to meet you. Here’s to everyone’s happiness and success, however they are defined by you!
