Hello! I’m Helen Wan. My debut novel THE PARTNER TRACK was published by St. Martin’s Press in Fall 2013 and has just been released in paperback.
I’m an author, lawyer, and frequent speaker on women in the workplace and diversity and inclusion. I’ve also written for CNN, The Washington Post, The Daily Beast, The Huffington Post, and others.
THE PARTNER TRACK is the story of a young Asian American woman poised to become the first female partner at a prestigious “old-boy” law firm. It’s about how race, sex, class, and outsider status impact the lives of talented people on the corporate ladder. It’s also about ambition itself, and staying true to ourselves while pursuing career success.
Since publication, I’ve had the privilege of being invited to speak at a great many corporations, law firms, law schools, universities, leadership conferences, and other places around the country about my novel, about how we — especially women and people of color — experience the dynamics of the career ladder, and what we can do to achieve a more inclusive and engaging workplace.
I find group dynamics endlessly fascinating. I’m very interested in our complicated relationship with ambition, and how social and cultural factors influence our pursuit of happiness. I love a good workplace story. I root for underdogs.
I’m now at work on my second novel. I also love reading, traveling, and making our toddler son laugh. Thanks for visiting my website. Happy to meet you! – Helen
